Pop-Up Collective Presents: MANIFOLD

When: Saturday, Dec. 12th, 2015 from 6-11PM (ONE NIGHT ONLY)
Location: SCA Contemporary Art, 524 Haines Ave. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102

The Pop-Up Collective is at it again presenting its 5th exhibition MANIFOLD, featuring an exceptional range of New Mexican artists. The exhibit opens Saturday, Dec. 12th, 2015 from 6-11PM at the SCA Contemporary Art gallery located at 524 Haines Ave. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. As guest curators we are working in collaboration with Sheri Crider, SCA owner, in support of her current project (relocation of the SCA).

Each artist will be showcasing an original series of work, as well as generously donating one piece of art for a silent auction benefiting Albuquerque’s art scene and our homeless community.  All proceeds raised from the silent auction will be split 50/50 between the SCA and Health Care for the Homeless. The SCA is currently remodeling the Sanitary Tortilla Factory located on 401 2nd St. SW which will become the gallery’s new location as of January 2016. The project includes not only an exhibition space, but will also house numerous artist studios. Our silent auction will also benefit Healthcare for the Homeless in effort to help keep our homeless population healthy and warm throughout the winter months. Please join us and support both of these wonderful projects!

MANIFOLD  will feature works by 9 remarkable visual artists: Shana Levenson, Stacy Hawkinson, Reyes Padilla, Rocky Norton, Elana Schwartz, Deret Roberts, Bruce Shortz, Jodie Herrera (curator), and Angie Poynter Rehnberg (curator). Internationally acclaimed realist portrait painter Shana Levenson’s work will astound you. Renowned local artist Stacy Hawkinson’s mixed media paintings are both intriguing and unique.  Reyes Padilla’s new abstract direction is full of energy and movement. Rocky Norton’s paintings are emotionally raw and captivating.  Elana Schwartz’s taxidermy and wood sculptures are hauntingly mythical.  Las Cruces artist, Deret Roberts figurative paintings are provocative and visually stimulating.  Bruce Shortz’s digital photo-montages are simultaneously beautiful and ominous. Jodie Herrera’s semi-photorealistic figurative paintings pay homage to the female experience. Angie Poynter Rehnberg’s new mixed media paintings celebrate the juxtaposition of abstraction and representation.

This event will feature a performance by Albuquerque’s first poet laureate Hakim Bellamy.  Birdman will be disk jockeying: space jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop, high life, and afro beat so be prepared to boogie!  We appreciate our favorite local watering hole, Tractor Brewery for sponsoring our event by graciously donating delicious beer! We also want to give a shout out to Albuquerque’s art pioneers Humbird and We Are This City for supporting the Pop-Up Collective.

The Pop-Up Collective utilizes Albuquerque's vacant and unique spaces to unveil some of the city's most talented artists as well as providing promotion to local venues and businesses. The Pop-Up Collective's exhibitions provide an excellent opportunity for local emerging artists to gain exposure by showcasing alongside mid-career to well-known artists. Our mission is to reveal the mass talent that New Mexico has to offer, while providing both our artists and the patrons with an engaging one night only experience that exceeds all expectations. Guests have proclaimed that our events "made [them} feel good about our city (Albuquerque)" - Nathaniel Paolinelli.  The concept of Pop-Up shows has been happening for quite some time in large cities internationally, but it has yet to be popularized in New Mexico. We intend to show that Albuquerque is a contender in the art world and has the talent to innovate and be influential. By transforming spaces into interactive community venues, our focus is to create an exceptional grassroots show for exhibiting artists and the patrons who attend and support our events.
